March Madness

Nope, not basketball. Yes, attempting to finish up the semester. Although there is still a little over a month before classes get out, we are already feeling the pressure of finishing up projects and papers. I even had a 2 hour presentation I had to give yesterday. Thank goodness for YouTube and random clips from Ghostbusters.

February 26 (Sunday): Dr. Pepper Roast with the Bells
This week I decided to be adventurous and make great meals every night -- as much as that was the goal, it was SOOO much food that we only made two things this week and it lasted us the whole time. For multiple meals. Every day. Sunday I got up and cooked a roast in Cherry Dr. Pepper (I think I might start posting my recipes as well... later today when I get home). We knew that it was going to be too much food so we invited our friends, the Bells, over for dinner. Although it had been in the crockpot for most of the day, the roast did not easily tear apart. We are thinking that maybe it got overcooked? It was still delicious though.

February 27 (Monday): Corn Chowder
Meal two for the week was corn chowder, a recipe from Brandon's sister that is from their mother. Brandon and I both worked on making the soup together, and barely had a pot to fit all of the soup in to cook it! Maybe I'll have to look into getting a larger pot for special occasions like this.

March 1 (Thursday): Psych
Brandon's brother, Bryce, texted Brandon this really cryptic message -- "Cause of death: Diabetes. I kid, he exploded". We both looked at that and were a bit confused. Then we searched it and realized that the new episode of Psych was available online (as a way to reduce our distractions during the school year, we did not hook up our cable... movies are still a good distraction though). So at our established 9:00 curfew for homework ending, we watched it.

March 2 (Friday): "Beauty & Belief", Papa Murphy's
Although we don't usually go to campus on Fridays because neither of us have class, I had to go because of a group meeting this morning and Brandon was so good to tag along. There was a new exhibit at the Museum of Art about Islamic art and I dragged Brandon along but we didn't stay long because his knee was hurting pretty bad (Brandon is taking a Brazilian Ju Jitsu class this semester and someone knocked his knee a few weeks ago and it hasn't been 100% since). That night Bryce and Makinsey came over for Papa Murphy's pizza, lemon cookies, chocolate and cookie dough ice cream, and Gauntlet Legends on the N64.

March 3 (Saturday): "The Ides of March" with the Bells
Tonight we headed over to the Bells to watch "The Ides of March" with them. Although a political movie about all the negative works that go on behind the scenes, I really enjoyed it. It's sad that politics works that way, but it really happens with all the inner workings to get your competition to not have the advantage as much as possible. The political ideologies were irritating at first, but I decided to ignore them and just follow the storyline; Brandon was irritated with the political ideals and he didn't enjoy it as much.

March 6 (Tuesday): Cream Cheese Pie
Here in Provo, Macey's holds cooking classes during the week. You show up, they teach you how to make a specific meal, and then you get to eat that food! This time it was a cream cheese pie and blackberry ice cream. It was really nice to not have to actually make the treat but get to enjoy the hard work. The instructor was this nerdy guy, totally into physics and computer science, but he was really entertaining. Because of his love of physics, he would explain all these different scientific things about how ice cream is made, and why the ice cream maker was made of specific materials, but do it while being nervous the whole time.

March 7 (Wednesday): Spoiled Girl with a Clean Apartment
Yesterday was a bit of a stressful day with my two hour presentation and being on campus from 8 to 6:30, but I came home to a bunch of surprises from Brandon and Bryce. I was joking with my friend Stephanie earlier that it would be great if I got home and dinner was made. I got home and the boys had cleaned the kitchen and bathroom, and Brandon put away our laundry (recently it has been just sitting clean in the hampers until it all disappears and its time to do laundry again), and Bryce made dinner. So sweet and such a big help!

FanWing Fest and Lagoon, Let's Start Summer!

Ready to play with Grandpa, never a moment's peace. Faye got to go to Girl's Camp! When I picked her up, she was so overwhelmed, had lost her favorite water bottle during camp cleanup, and just really needed some downtime. So we ran away to McDonalds for some food and cookies and a drink. Then I made her go to DI with me. Girls Camp is great, but it's a lot sometimes with all the fun! Took a walk around the backyard to find new surprises. Mulberry tree. Pink lilies Blackberries Faye took up facepainting to keep the kids entertained while I'm working. Dino parmesan, probably one of the better meals I've made in a while. Dino chicken nuggets covered with spaghetti sauce and cheese. What else could you need? Aedan's room is perfect for fort building Trying to match paint to our tiles upstairs has been quite the feat. It's not really teal, not really black, not really sage, and not really olive green.  But we're working on updating it. The old spout was re...

Queen Gwen of the Kindergarteners

Jens came to town, so Grandpa Ekman took the kids on lots of extra adventures. Took Faye and Jens to "This Is The Place" Park where they panned for gold. Took Faye and Gwen to Golden Spike Monument, to see the trains run. Even got to pick out a fun stuffed animal to take home. Met up with Brandon's sister, Becky, to hike Mount Timpanogos to the caves. That was the hardest thing I've ever done. I didn't think I was that out of shape, but everyone else raced to the top of the mountain and I majorly struggled the whole time. Not just physically, but mentally too. The trail is so close to the edge of the mountain, my anxiety was skyrocketing. Especially with little kiddos that weren't super paying attention to where they were going. Brandon went with us too, and he took control of the kids, making sure I could just focus on myself. And then, we had to go into these tight caves. And that didn't help my anxiety either. Dark, crowded, tight quarters. I'm not ...

Potted Potter

For Faye's birthday present we got tickets to Potted Potter on The Strip. It was such a fun show! We took Faye's good friend, Heather, with us, and grabbed my nephew, Jamie. Lots of improv and just funny moments from the Harry Potter franchise. The actors loved that Jamie even dressed up. I hadn't even thought about it! After the show we stopped at Vons and each kid got to pick their own tub of ice cream, because getting ice cream at the casino was just going to be ridiculously expensive. It was a fun idea!  Found Andrew at church Easter egg hunt with the cousins. After the eggs were all found, then Grandpa hid some golden eggs with money and made the kids search even more.  Dance party! Kiddos were showing off and performing, and Brian and I got up to show some country line dance skills from church youth dances. Recreated a photo from when they were babies. Got a note from Aedan's teacher, sharing about his sweetness. Even though he won't let me hug him at school d...
